Well, I can’t believe it, but I’ve finished my 10 piece series of portraits of community members who give back. ¡No puedo creerlo! When quarantine started 3 weeks ago I wanted to do something artistic to honor members of our community and help create something positive that might help us feel connected despite our current physical distancing. This process was incredible for me. I loved drawing each piece as I truly got to meditate on each person as I drew them. I thought about what each person did for the community, and I felt like they were there with me in the room while I drew. Subsequently I was smiling much of the time I drew. Thank you to everyone who let me draw them, and again, thank you for all you have done and do for the community and the world. There were so many people nominated and I appreciate everyone taking the time to nominate others. There are so many amazing people in this world, this project could truly go on forever. I am excited to announce that the International House of Davis has offered to host my show for a month at some point after quarantine, and they have already posted my show online at http://www.internationalhousedavis.org/programs/programsart-may10/communidad-exhibit/. Thank you Shelly Gilbride and Shahzana Ali! . I also want to thank Kate Mellon-Anibaba for telling me about/ encouraging me to apply for a grant that, if approved, will help me pay for frames, supplies, and so that I might be able to continue the series and have a gallery show at some point. You’ve been such an advocate. Thank you all! Much love!
