Intercultural Mosaics: Embracing Growth and Building Community
by Rev. Dr. Stephen Moon
In 2024, Mosaics has stepped into a transformative new chapter, embracing the possibilities that have arisen in the wake of the pandemic. We’ve found joy in expanding our hybrid gatherings, offering both a lively Friday Zoom meeting and a warm, in-person dinner fellowship every Saturday. This evolution has been heartening, as we’ve welcomed over 200 new participants from diverse corners of the world into our community, whether at our church campus in Davis or online. Each interaction, from quick hellos to deeper conversations, has contributed to enriching our shared lives.
Our in-person gatherings have flourished, attracting an average of 65-75 participants each week, with 3-5 newcomers eager to join us. Online, we’ve seen 40-50 participants weekly, often featuring 2-3 new faces, all yearning for connection. This dynamic hybrid model has enabled Mosaics to cultivate a compassionate community that transcends age, geography, and culture.
Looking toward 2025, we are wholeheartedly dedicated to reaching and nurturing “Generation MZA”—Millennials, Gen Z, and Alpha Generation. This vibrant group thrives in our hyper-connected world, and we aspire to be a spiritual sanctuary and a missional hub where fellowship and intercultural dialogue can blossom. We are especially committed to individuals with third-culture identities, helping them navigate the crossroads of their diverse backgrounds and encouraging them to serve as ambassadors of Jesus in their communities.
As we continue to embrace the advancements of the 5th Industrial Revolution, Mosaics is evolving into “Intercultural Mosaics,” a mission that marries traditional church structures with innovative approaches. We envision Mosaics as a catalyst for mobilizing Generation MZA and third-culture individuals to realize God’s vision of creating intercultural missional hubs and spiritual ecosystems in partnership with established churches. This collaboration will foster flourishing, diverse, and interconnected communities that promote understanding, love, and mutual support.
The heart of our ministry lies in creating genuine connections across cultures, where radical hospitality is our guiding principle. We invite everyone to feel welcomed and valued, fostering vibrant intercultural fellowships that deepen faith and build lasting relationships. Through shared meals, engaging learning opportunities, and a commitment to serving the common good, we witness transformative faith journeys that echo the early Christian community.
Our success is measured not just in numbers but in the profound connections we build and the love we share. As we strive to cultivate koinonia—community rooted in love and outreach—we reflect on how our members embody love for God, for one another, and for themselves. We rejoice in seeing new participants joining our gatherings and classes, whether online or in person. Each new face brings fresh energy and perspectives, enriching our community.
As we walk this journey together, we are inspired by the ways the Holy Spirit is moving among us. We anticipate witnessing spiritual growth through engagement with Scripture, prayer, and shared experiences, deepening our commitment to God and one another.
Our leadership team is dedicated to creating spaces for meaningful dialogue and mutual understanding, addressing practical needs while nurturing a spirit of innovation. We recognize that the journey of cultural transformation takes time, and we embrace patience and compassion as we walk alongside those navigating their faith journeys.
We are excited about the future of Mosaics, filled with hope, connection, and a vibrant life in our shared faith. As we continue to grow, we invite you to join us on this heartfelt journey. Together, we can transform lives and inspire hope in a world that so desperately needs it. Let’s build a community that reflects God’s love and grace, where every individual feels they belong and can thrive.
