Mosaics Summer Hiking at Bassi Falls, Pollock Pines, CA
This event is for all mosaics and their friends. It’s very easy and short 15 min. hiking (one way) suitable for toddlers and dogs. Those who are advanced climbers, you may try to climb to the top of falls after arriving to Bassi Falls picnic area. There will be a prize for the best photo during the hiking.
* Note: There will be no language classes at Davis Community Church on May 12, 2018 due to hiking.
Bassi Falls Hiking Information:
• Location: Pollock Pines, Eldorado National Forest, El Dorado County (Takes about 2 hour-driving from Sacramento)
• Height: 109 ft.

• Distance: 1.2 miles (Round Trip)

Directions:
From Hwy #50 about 20 miles east of Placerville, turn left (north) onto Ice House Rd (Forest Road 3). Drive 15.9 miles on Ice House Rd. to Union Valley Reservoir. Turn right onto an unmarked dirt road (Road 12N32A), just after crossing the bridge over Big Silver Creek (opposite Big Silver group camp). Drive 0.2 miles to a junction and turn left. Then, drive 0.8 miles to another junction and turn right. Drive another 0.7 miles to the trailhead at the end of the road (total 1.7 miles along the dirt road). We can meet at the end of the road parking lot around 11 ~ 11:15 am. ♥

• 9:00 am: Depart from DCC Staff Parking Lot, 421 D Street, Davis (next to Fellowship Hall). All drivers and riders, please come by 8:45 am for the maximum carpooling. Please bring your lunch, snacks, and drinks.
• 11 ~ 11:15 am: Arrive at Bassi Falls Entrance Parking Area. Those who are coming directly, please call or text Dr. Stephen Moon at 916-217-5470.

This should be a treat as the incredible snowpack coupled with the all-of-a-sudden-heat will make this waterfall jump to life!
This is a kid friendly and dog friendly hike and excellent for absolute beginners and people wary of heading off into the back country. Bring water, sun protection and tell someone where you will be.
It is an easy 10~15 minute walk from the parking area to the falls. There is now an official, maintained trail leading to Bassi Falls. It is very easy to follow, though once the trail reaches an open area, it becomes indistinct crossing over the granite rock. A line of rocks has been made so it is fairly easy to continue following the trail to the waterfall. It is not hard to find the falls anyway, because you can clearly hear it, and eventually you will see it from a distance away. When you reach the base of Bassi Falls, you will be treated to an awesome view of the entire 109 ft. cascade. But be very careful up there. If you fall in the creek, it is certain death if you go over the waterfall. Also, the trail to the top of the falls is not easy, as it ascends up a steep granite rock section. Going back down is quite tricky and potentially dangerous.
This is only a 1.2 mile hike and the scenery vs the effort is spectacular! Don’t miss out… •
