2020 Easter

Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior and Coming King!

“Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.”

Isaiah 53:4-6

We pray that all of you mosaics, your friends and families, to have a blessed Easter!

10 piece series of portraits of community members Who Give Back

by Señora Misteriosa

https://www.facebook.com/senora.misteriosa/videos/2805203689574866/
Artist: Stephanie Thayer

Well, I can’t believe it, but I’ve finished my 10 piece series of portraits of community members who give back. ¡No puedo creerlo! When quarantine started 3 weeks ago I wanted to do something artistic to honor members of our community and help create something positive that might help us feel connected despite our current physical distancing. This process was incredible for me. I loved drawing each piece as I truly got to meditate on each person as I drew them. I thought about what each person did for the community, and I felt like they were there with me in the room while I drew. Subsequently I was smiling much of the time I drew. Thank you to everyone who let me draw them, and again, thank you for all you have done and do for the community and the world. There were so many people nominated and I appreciate everyone taking the time to nominate others. There are so many amazing people in this world, this project could truly go on forever. I am excited to announce that the International House of Davis has offered to host my show for a month at some point after quarantine, and they have already posted my show online at http://www.internationalhousedavis.org/programs/programsart-may10/communidad-exhibit/. Thank you Shelly Gilbride and Shahzana Ali! . I also want to thank Kate Mellon-Anibaba for telling me about/ encouraging me to apply for a grant that, if approved, will help me pay for frames, supplies, and so that I might be able to continue the series and have a gallery show at some point. You’ve been such an advocate. Thank you all! Much love!

Faith Fundraiser for Davis Mosaics during COVID-19 Crisis

Your donation will support Davis Mosaics community, which is sponsored by Davis Community Church, offering various intercultural language and music meetups, cross-cultural community events and spiritual classes to all people, especially multi-racial Millennials (aka Mosaics or Gen Y) and Gen Z. Our activities include feeding homeless and also helping who are in need.

To make FaceBook donation, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/donate/1578390915644117/1578390928977449/

• Fundraising Period: March 30, 2020 through June 30, 2020

• Fundraising Goal: $5,000

Mission Statements:

Mosaics seeks to move the “church as institution” to “religion as spiritual faith,” placing an emphasis on creating a culture of belonging and knowing one another deeply first. As Dr. Diana Butler Bass so eloquently puts it, “Christianity did not begin with a confession. It began with an invitation into friendship, into creating a new community, into forming relationships based on love and service.”

Mosaics continues to restore the koinonia of the early first century movement (Acts 2:42-47), encounter (paga) with God in a daily basis to share everything in common, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people, which is the authentic agape fellowship instructed by our Lord Jesus Christ. In the new era of paradigm shift, Mosaics will truly be an exciting movement for the church of future.

Portrait of Grace & Stephen Moon

by Señora Misteriosa
Portrait 6 of the 10 PIECE SERIES OF PORTRAITS OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS by Artist, Señora Misteriosa
Artist: Stephanie Thayer

Portrait 6 complete which means I’m over half way done with my initial community-members-who-give-back series! Today I am honoring some of the most humble, generous, and kind people I know in Davis. Dr. Stephen Moon and Grace K Moon were both born in Korea, and came to Hawaii in 1983 to study and later start a family. As parents of two millennial children, they have a strong passion and desire to reach younger generations. Steven and Grace run an organization called, “Mosaics” at the Davis Community Church (where Steven is a Pastor) which has been sponsored by the Davis Community Church since 2015. Mosaics offers various language, music, spiritual and cultural classes free of charge to the public (but please donate to keep them afloat). To access Mosaics’ spring schedule check out http://www.nextg.org/mosaics-2020-spring-class-schedule/ (classes are now being offered on zoom. Check the schedule here http://www.nextg.org/mosaics-zoom-classes/). I’ve taken Portuguese and Spanish classes there and the teachers are excellent. While community members take language classes at Mosaics on Saturday afternoons, Grace is busy preparing a free community meal for 60 people (with the help of volunteers) which is served at 6 pm. It’s ALWAYS delicious and nutritious. During dinner there is usually an open mic night where people can perform solo or in groups. The Moons have truly created an amazing space that has brought people from all walks of life together and built community. All faiths are welcome. Steven and Grace, I am so glad I met you this year and thank you for all you do for the community! See Less— with Stephen Moon at Davis Mosaics.

Mosaics Zoom Classes

We are preparing to convert all physical classes to virtual classes as the COVID-19 pandemic will be lasting much longer than we anticipated. Here is what I would like to ask all of you.

1. Please join our meetup https://www.meetup.com/Davis-Intercultural-Language-Meetup/, if you haven’t to check all our future online Zoom classes as well as regular classes at Davis Community Church, offered by current and new teachers who want to offer classes for free to all participants. Most of class materials will be provided in pdf and/or printouts.

2. All teachers (current and new) and mosaics leaders will be assigned as either co-organizers and/or assistant organizers once they are joined in the meetup. Co-organizers can create the meetup classes whereas assistant organizers can manage the group calendar and all member communication. Please message me with your Zoom site link address.

3. Please spread word that we are not socially disconnected, but physically disconnected now, and we are continually meeting virtually in our Zoom sites until meeting again in person. Anyone who has language teaching skill, please join Mosaics FB group page at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mosaicsfellowship/ and let me know.
